Daemane Michael Matamane

Brigadier Daemane Michael Matamane was born in the Mafeteng district on the 21st June 1966. He completed his Cambridge Overseas Syndicate Certificate in 1985 at St Stephens High School in Mohale's Hoek.

He was enlisted in the Lesotho Defence Force in 1986 and thereafter enrolled for Pilot Pupils Course in South African Air Force (SAAF) in January 1992. The General was selected amongst the nominated pilots earmarked for the Harvard Generation Combat Formation (Air reconnaissance) in 1992.

In 1993 he proceeded to Hoedspruit Air Force Base in the Republic of South Africa to attend Air Combat Planning Campaigns and Force Preparations Course. He received his flying wings on Harvard (T–6A) and thereafter proceeded to Bloemspruit Air Force Base, Bloemfontein for multi–engine aircraft operational conversion course until March 1993.

He was commissioned to the rank of Second Lieutenant in April 1994. He has risen through the ranks holding different functional staff appointments in the Lesotho Defence Force Airwing till 2018 when he was appointed the Airwing Commander. He has flown numerous aircraft types to date and has logged over 2,500 hours with Category A–1 Instructor Rating.

The General's decorations include Military Medal for Meritorious Service (MMMS) and Military Service Medal (MSM) (10 20 & 30 years).
