The Lesotho Contingent in Mozambique under the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) deployed in the Nangade District of Cabo Delgado Province together with their counterparts United Republic of Tanzania (URT), conducted an offensive mobile patrol from Nangade Sede to the East in Chitama and Kintu villages, and to Nkonka village in the South east of Nangade on the 19th January 2024
The purpose of this patrol was to meet the Mozambique Local Forces (Force Local) and community leaders to strengthen the working relationships in the fight against terrorism in Nangade district. The focal points of discussion were on challenges faced by Force Local in particular their security, and the security of the communities they are serving so as to enable SAMIM forces to act in time to provide security.
Moreover, the patrols were intended to monitor the process of returning home after the residents fled due to terrorism. The SAMIM forces also wanted to identify those who have returned and where they have been for security clearance.
Meanwhile SAMIM forces in Nangade have assisted in road-opening projects of rebuilding the Runeke Culvert Bridge that joins the villages of Nangomba and Runeke, by donating cement, crusher, and reinforcement steel. These road opening projects are useful to the SAMIM forces because they enable smooth mobility through the villages in the Nangade district.
The residents of Nangade have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the regular visits by the SAMIM Forces as they are not yet settled to the past acts of terrorism.s
